ABSTRACT
The article analyzes the proposals related to innovation and entrepreneurship that permeate education and educational policies, constituting new forms of relationships between the public and private sectors. Based on the case of Porto Alegre/RS, the trajectory of education in the city is revisited, from the “Citizen School” to the “capital of innovation,” revealing how public education is part of the power dynamics surrounding different societal projects. The assumptions that currently lead the public education debate in the municipality contribute to shaping new imaginaries of the future for the city, in line with global formulations, as an expression of capitalism’s interests in education.
