ABSTRACT
This article discusses analytical categories that directly involve the teaching profession. It is considered that one of the intentions of the managerialist state is to reduce and devalue the public service. This analysis is based on data concerning the ways in which teachers are hired in Brazil and France, from 2010 to 2020, the initial and final years of the publication of the School Census in Brazil. Despite the fact that there are more permanent teachers in both countries, temporary contracts are growing in several Brazilian states, reaching 74% in Acre, for example, and in France, non-permanent teachers are concentrated in the most socially vulnerable territories.
