ART TEACHING IN AN INDIGENOUS VILLAGE AND SCHOOL: TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND CONTEMPORARY KNOWLEDGE

ABSTRACT

Art teaching is part of the curriculum of Brazilian indigenous schools, but the indigenous people have their own way of teaching and learning art in the village, without needing books or other conventional teaching materials, because art is present in their daily lives. This article presents the ways of teaching and learning art considering the traditional knowledge of the Huni Kuĩ people of the Kaxinawá Indigenous Land of Nova Olinda. It will emphasize how the indigenous people teach art inside and outside of school, in the villages of this land, from the indigenous teacher’s point of view.
