ABSTRACT
The objective of this article is to reveal the (self)formative processes and actions of the indigenous leader Quitéria Binga (1939-2009), from the Pankararu indigenous people, from Pernambuco, who has a background of struggles for land and the right to life. Thus, this work, colored by the relationship between biography and history, has a bibliographic and documentary nature. The investigation revealed not only the oppression directed at indigenous peoples, but also how Quitéria Binga, because of her actions, forged in circumstances of deprivation, fear, and violence, was considered the chief of the northeast.
