Open-access THE DISTRIBUTION OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES BY DISTRICTS IN SÃO PAULO: CLASS, RACE AND GENDER DISTINCTIONS

ABSTRACT

This article aims to analyze the relationship between the personal characteristics of students with disabilities and social inequality, by comparing statistical data provided by the 2019 School Census (Inep, 2019) between two districts in São Paulo: Moema, the one with the highest standard of quality of life, and São Miguel, the one with the worst quality. To this end, the Bolsa Família Index (IBF) was created: a ranking of the relationship between the total number of resident families and the number of those benefiting from this program. This comparison emphasizes the differences between the personal characteristics of the students (type of disability, color/race, sex, and age group), as well as between them and the administrative instances of the schools.
