How do we explain the use made in a democratic society of political vocabulary that functions by alluding to the family as the principal of social reality? Updated by the media, these references offer a scattered vision of the significance of democracy and reveal the possible existence of two theoretical fields that are irreconcilable. One of these fields masks the other; the democratical ideas, modern party and elections dissimulating familial characteristics, i.e., the political-social world characteristics. Based on an empirical research about the transmission of political power in Minas Gerais, the article discusses a method to examine the fundamentals of the above investigation. The sources of information used in the study are also commented on. The text does not consider these sources as technical cases, but as problems directly linked to the methodology of political socio-history.
