ABSTRACT
This text aims to present the disputes around the debate on the quality of education in Brazil, in the light of the historical and dialectical materialism. To this end, the text presents the antagonistic perspectives on the quality of education in the current political-educational debate and indicates that the ideological dispute present in the debate, on the one hand, intends to maintain the logic of the capitalist mode of production and, on the other hand, break with the social division and, at the limit, collaborate for the establishment of a truly fair, free and equal society.
