The social representations of traditional midwives and their way to care

Based on the Sociology of Absences and Emergencies by Boaventura de Souza Santos, this paper discusses the social representations of the know-how of traditional midwives. It seeks to highlight the need for a dialog between different knowledge and indicates that popular education can contribute to an ecology of knowledge and to the educational practice of health professionals.
