The article presents the political project of the Tupinambá of Serra do Padeiro in relation to indigenous school education, which has required constant reorganization, in the wake of dispossession and in accordance with the collective objective of providing formal education to new generations as a means of guaranteeing rights and improvement of living conditions in the village. The period presented here also contextualizes the region of southern Bahia, paying more attention, at key moments in the trajectory of the struggle of the Tupinambá people of Olivença for ethnic recognition, for the territory and for a differentiated education – with emphasis on the Serra do Padeiro community – highlighting how moments of this trajectory intersect with Paulo Freire himself, and the importance of his work.
