IN SEARCH OF THE POPULAR UNIVERSITY: reflections on a possible positive encounter between anthropological research, popular education and agroecology

Based on questions raised by field research conducted together with the multiethnic network known as Teia dos Povos (Peoples’ Web) and previous experiences with the Kaiowá and Guarani people, this paper discusses, in dialogue with the innovative experience brought by the Universidade Federal do Sul da Bahia (UFSB), how certain popular demands for changes in education can lead us to the proposed Popular Education and how it demands from Universities a changeover that incorporates this field of knowledge and practices. At an epistemological level, this text shows how Popular Education shares issues with contemporary Anthropology in Latin America, pointing out possible solutions to its impasses that, in the end, represent challenges for the University itself. These challenges have triggered internal processes in universities in recent decades, which are currently intensified by an ongoing epistemological and ontological revolution: Agroecology.
