This paper makes an analysis of the method used by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda and of his concept of Cordial Man, showing how both were built starting from the weberian typology and how the Cordial Man's concept based the author's political analysis. It analyzes the subject of the national identity in the author's perspective, and it marks the reformulation process that such issue suffered throughout his work.
