This paper analyzes the process of productive restructuring in an Uruguayan company of dairy products. The objective of this work is to show that the productive restructuring is also a social process, because the different agents are affected by the transformations in course and will modify their positionings in the social space. The struggles and negotiations in relation to the general process of restructuring of industrial plants are analyzed; the enterpreneurial search of cooperation of the workforce; and union resistance to the multifuncionality and to the formation of a restricted layer of workers with domain of skills. The methodology included statistical sources, application of questionnaires and interviews, and observation in the work places. The results show a negotiated restructuring that creates distrust between business and workers.
