WOOD AND BARK ANATOMY OF Acacia caven (Mol.) Mol.

ABSTRACT

The wood and bark anatomy of Acacia caven (Mol.) Mol. is described. Quantitative data from different features of the secondary xylem id furnished as well as photomicrographs of abundance of axial parenchyma, and the high percentage of rays with 4 or more wide cells are important characteristics of the wood structure. On the other hand, the arrangement of phloematic fibers in regular-tangential bands, surrounded by cristal series, is therefore, the most observed aspect in the bark. This characteristic had never been reported in the anatomical literature of south American acacias and may be of taxonomic value, at an infra-generic level.
