SOME BIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF THE TWIG GIRDLER, Oncideres dejeani THOMPSON, 1868 (COLEOPTERA: CERAMBYCIDAE)

SUMMARY

This paper deals with the comparison of some biological parameters of the twig girdler Oncideres dejeani attacking black aroeira, Lithraea brasiliensis L. March (Anacardiaceae) and the milk wood, Sebastiania brasiliensis Spreng. (Euphorbiaceae). The experiments were set in São Sepé, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It was observed that the emergence hole is oval in milk wood and almost circular in black aroeira. The larvae attack branches of variable diameters, regarless the plant species. The length of the galleries and the volume of wood consumed are similar for both plant species.
