TAPER AND ASSORTMENT OF WOOD FOR Eucalyptus grandis MAIDEN TO THE STATE OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL

SUMMARY

In this paper it was studied the Eucalyptus grandis taper in order to determinate the volume and formation of wood assortment in two classes: sawmill, consisting of logs with 30 cm minimun diameter overbark and lenght of 4,20m, 3,40m and 2,60m, with priority of getting higher sizes groups; industrial logs or segments of it, with diameter between 7cm and 30cm overbark. The taper was adjusted by a 5 degree polynomial, having as dependent variable the relative diameter (di/d) and as independent variable the relative height (hi/h), which showed good adjustment and good statistical precision. This result shows the possibility of estimating either the absolute and relative volume of the assorment by integration of the taper function.
