In the face of the advancement of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), the scenario of libraries has been changed mainly in relation to the ways of information access. Library sites start to operate as tools of interaction between research sources and users. For a study of the library contribution to construction and dissemination of knowledge at INPE, the concepts of information society and scientific and technological knowledge are analyzed as well as the product generated at the Institute. This article deals with Internet and presents an approach about the types of libraries, as they are classified in relation to ICTs and can contribute to information dissemination and knowledge production. INPE is characterized in its present reality as well as its libraries. The Library on-line site is described as it has developed, how it is today, and who are its users.
