Trajectory of the Information society in Brazil: the measurement by means of a synthetic indicator

The Information Society (IS) portrays the growing importance of information, knowledge and technological innovations take nowadays. The article aims to draw up an exploratory exercise on the use of synthetic indicator focused on the design of relevant aspects of SI. The methodological procedures involved the use of databases and statistical information, standardization of variables, and analysis of documents and literature. The results suggest that although positive, the trajectory of SI was not linear in time. Among the dimensions under consideration, the most significant manifestation of the SI was associated with the availability of technological infrastructure and Means of Internet Access. In turn, Vocational Education and Financial Resources, pose challenges to be faced for the consolidation of SI in Brazil. In trying to represent complex and multifaceted concept and seek to scale aspects of its manifestation, this article represents the effort to systematize data and information of interest to information science.
