Nietzsche no Rio da Prata (1900-1950)

My current investigation is centered on the first Rio de la Plata readers of Nietzsche from the end of the XIX century until the middle of the XX century. I have dealt with the reception of his thought on the eastern side of Rio de la Plata in the context of Modernism. The novelist Carlos Reyles and the essayist José Enrique Rodó are two clear examples of the questions and interests that motivated the reading of Nietzsche towards 1900, in a context where the European crisis of fin-de-siecle found significant echoes in Latin America. Among the Argentinean readers of the German philosopher, I am particularly interested in Jorge Luis Borges, whose "ideal library" I am reconstructing in its more relevant segments. Thus, my presentation focuses on the common and specific characteristics of this reception of Nietzsche, as well as the presuppositions of my work in the context of the Nietzsche's Studies.
