Resumo Fundamental para compreender e caracterizar a filosofia nietzschiana da maturidade, o binômio Wagner/ décadence condensa e expõe, por um lado, a face disruptivo- negativa da crítica de Nietzsche à modernidade estética; e, por outro, torna possível uma aplicação pontual da assim chamada “transvaloração dos valores.” O presente artigo visa a explicitar tal duplo ponto de vista.

Abstract The Wagner/décadence binomial is fundamental to comprehend and characterize Nietzsche’s latest philosophy, for it outlines, on the one hand, the negative and disruptive side of his critique on aesthetic modernity; and, on the other, it makes possible a precise application of the so called “transvaluation of all values.” Attentive and responsible, this article aims at explaining this double point of view.

Resumo Este artigo visa a condensar e expor a crítica de Nietzsche a Wagner a partir do tipo cultural identificado, pelo filósofo, como a wagneriana. Levando em conta o sentido paradoxal do discurso nietzschiano a respeito do feminino - a um só tempo libertador e masculinista- e passando em revista elementos fundantes da obra do célebre compositor, torna-se então plausívelapreciar a relação entre drama musical e misoginia. A ideia principal é a de mostrar que, a despeito de certos prejuízos esposados pelo filosofo alemão, ele não pode aceitar a lógica dualista que preside o sistema sexista de significações, revelando-se, em suas análises estético-musicais, um confiável e atento aliado no combate aos preconceitos morais.

Abstract This article aims at abridging and exposing Nietzsche’s critique on Wagner in view of the culture type known as Wagnerian woman. By considering Nietzsche’s paradoxical approach to womanliness - simultaneously liberating and masculinist - and investigating the fundamental elements of the composer’s work of art, it becomes then possible to appraise the relationship between musical drama and misogyny. The main idea is to show that, despite Nietzsche’s preconceptions, he cannot acknowledge the dualistic logic followed by sexist meaning systems; in fact, through his musical and aesthetic analysis, he ends up revealing himself as an attentive and trustworthy ally in the combat against moral prejudice.

Resumo O artigo pretende analisar a relação entre canção popular e música dionisíaca, partindo das considerações metafísicas e musicológicas de Nietzsche em O nascimento da tragédia. Trata-se de apresentar os argumentos de Nietzsche no que tange à importância da canção popular no desenvolvimento das artes gregas que culminariam na tragédia. Mostrando como a união entre som e palavra exerce um papel decisivo nesse desenvolvimento, pretende-se expor as teorias nietzschianas sobre o tema em seus primeiros escritos, para, a seguir, defender que a autocrítica tardia do filósofo nos permite ampliar suas considerações musicais e assim pensar o contexto da música no século XX.

Abstract The article aims at analyzing the relationship between popular song and Dionysian music taking into account Nietzsche´s metaphysical and musicological considerations inThe birth of tragedy. It seeks to show Nietzsche´s reasons for the importance of popular song to the development of the Greek arts, which culminate in tragedy. Indicating how the union between sound and words takes a decisive role on this development, it hopes to exhibit Nietzsche´s theories about the subject within his first writings, in order to maintain, afterwards, that his latter self-critique allows us to amplify his musical ideas and thus to think about the musical context in 20th Century.

Resumo Entre os motivos que conduziram Nietzsche à escrita de Assim falou Zaratustra, os estudos especializados deixaram de investigar a importânciaque Wagner teve no surgimento dessa obra e, particularmente, o seu Parsifal.O presente artigo pretende evidenciar o conjunto dos elementos quepermitem sustentar a hipótese de que, entre essas duas obras, há umaprofunda relação. Relação que, quando trazida à luz, fornece enfoquesexegéticos tão originais quanto úteis para uma mais penetrante compreensãode um texto que, sob muitos aspectos, apresenta-se altamente enigmático.

Abstract Among the reasons for Nietzsche's composition of Zarathustra, one of aspects that have been majorly neglected by scholarly research concerns RichardWagner and his Parsifal. This paper will explore a few significant details,that will be able to present a deep correlation between the two works. Suchcorrelation could really cast some light on Zarathustra and its highlyenigmatic style and contents. Indeed, it could propose new interpretativeperspectives, that would be both original and helpful for an exhaustiveunderstanding of Nietzsche's work.

Resumo O texto explora as afinidades que podem ser encontradas entre o pensamento de Nietzsche e o de Rousseau a partir da análise do interesse de ambos pela música. Não escamoteando o que os separa, procura-se esclarecer as razões deste interesse e a sua relação quercom a preocupaçãoque partilham acerca da cultura ocidental moderna, quer com crise da subjectividade que essa cultura parece acarretar.

Abstract The text aims at exploring the affinities that might be found between Nietzsche’s and Rousseau’s thought through an analysis of their common interest in music. Without ignoring the discrepancies between both of them, it tries to enlighten the reasons behind this interest and their shared concern for modern western culture, as well as for the subjective crisis that this culture seems to cause.

Resumo Contra a ideia convencionalmente aceita de que seu recurso à ópera Carmen teve um caráter meramente estratégico, a saber, como “antítese irônica” em sua batalha final contra Wagner, o objetivo deste trabalho é mostrar que, na verdade, tanto a música de Bizet como o mito de Carmen adquiriram um alto valor simbólico no pensamento maduro de Nietzsche, encarnando de alguma maneira a transvaloração de todos os valores nos casos concretos do gosto estético e de uma nova concepção do amor.

Abstract In opposition to the conventionally accepted opinion that his resort to the opera Carmen was one of a purely strategic nature, Nietzsche using it as "ironic antithesis" in his final battle against Wagner, this paper’s aim would be to show that both Bizet’s music as the myth of Carmen will acquire a high symbolic value in the Nietzschean mature thought, by embodying in some way the transvaluation of all values in the specific instances of aesthetic taste and a new conception of love.

Resumo O presente artigo tem o objetivo de refletir acerca das relações entre Nietzsche e o compositor italiano de ópera Gioachino Antonio Rossini. No intuito de traçar o desenvolvimento da influência do músico sobre o filósofo, o artigo realiza um apanhado e examina os textos de Nietzsche em que Rossini é citado. Ao longo do trabalho, tenta-se evidenciar que essa influência foi gradativa, mas de essencial importância nas vivências do filósofo. Como temática secundária, o artigo também traz algumas reflexões sobre a relação entre Wagner e Rossini.

Abstract This article aims at reflecting on the relationships between Nietzsche and the Italian opera composer Gioachino Antonio Rossini. In order to trace the development of the influence exerted by the musician on the philosopher, the article provides an accurate summary and then carefully considers the texts of Nietzsche in which Rossini is quoted. Along the piece of writing we try to make it clear that although this influence was a growing one, it proved to be decisive within Nietzsche’s life experiences. As a secondary theme, the article also raises some ideas about the relationship between Wagner and Rossini.
