After a breef discussion on diary as a practice, the article discribes the diary of a 19th century woman, analysing it as symptom of/ remedy for her distress after her husband's death. Her origin, education, culture and religion are shown in the diary. This narrative shows the conflicts caused by her economic problems - heading her to enter public and professional life, for the maintenance of her children - and the feeling of lonliness after a wonderful love relationship.
