Neste texto, procura-se contar a história da exibição do sexo em filmes majoritariamente produzidos nos Estados Unidos no período de quase um século. Ao se perguntar quando, porque e como os Estados Unidos se transformaram de uma cultura que não exibia o sexo em uma que o exibe, a autora insiste no duplo significado do verbo screen (tanto como uma revelação quanto uma dissimulação). Exibir é revelar em uma tela. Mas um segundo e igualmente importante significado, como diz o dicionário é "proteger ou esconder atrás de uma tela". Os filmes tanto revelam como escondem. O artigo analisa a forma como mudanças sociais ocorridas nos Estados Unidos, como, por exemplo, a Revolução sexual dos anos 60 e novas visões a respeito da sexualidade, possibilitaram novas maneiras de representação do sexo no cinema, reorganizando a relação entre o público e o privado. O artigo se pergunta também sobre como nossos corpos e sentidos reagem ao encontro com o sexo na tela, introduzindo a ideia de "saber carnal" (carnal knowledge).

In this paper, we try to tell the history of the exhibition of sex in movies mainly produced in the United States in almost a century. Asking when, why and how the United States became - from a culture that did not exhibit sex - into a culture that exhibits it, the author insists in the double sense of the verb to screen (as both a revelation and a dissimulation). To exhibit is to reveal in a screen. But another, and important, sense, as says the dictionary, is "to protect or hide behind a screen". Movies show as well as they reveal. The paper analyzes the way social change in the United States, for example the sexual revolution of the sixties and new views on sexuality allowed new ways of representing sex in the movies, creating a new relation between public and private. The paper also asks how our bodies and senses react to sex in the screen, introducing the idea of "carnal knowledge".

As ideias deste artigo têm como propósito aprofundar a discussão sobre mercado erótico (produção, comercialização e consumo de bens eróticos) e pensar, de um lado, suas conexões mais gerais com o mercado, ou seja, com uma lógica cuja operação implica a produção de diferenças a partir da oferta de bens e serviços; de outro lado, analisar as articulações dessa oferta no registro dos produtos eróticos, partindo do suposto de que os objetos buscados e valorizados seriam os que justamente realçam a diferença e a transgressão. Ao lado da discussão teórica, o artigo traz uma etnografia dos sex shops na cidade de São Paulo. Na direção inversa das visões que tendem a tomar o mercado ora como mero reflexo de demandas sociais ora como força manipuladora diante da qual o consumidor é passivo, assiste-se a criação de nichos de sex shops que configuram um processo de constituição de novas posições diante da sexualidade, ampliando o escopo de escolhas e práticas sexuais, sobretudo, para as mulheres.

The ideas in this paper aim at deepening the discussion on the erotic market (production, commercialization and consumption of erotic goods) and thinking its more general connections to the market, i. e., to an operative logic that implies the production of differences, from the supply of goods and services. It aims, on the other hand, at analyzing the articulation of this supply from the assumption that the objects searched for and valorized are precisely those that stress the difference and transgression. Besides the theoretical discussion, the paper reports an ethnography of sex shops in São Paulo. Against views that take the market for a mere reflection of social demands or as a manipulating force before passive consumers, we see the creation of a niche of sex shops that configure new positions vis a vis sexuality, widening the scope of sexual choices, especially for women.

O objetivo deste artigo é discutir como a pornografia, em especial a pornografia envolvendo pessoas que transitam entre os sexos/gêneros, lida com uma das questões mais características das ciências sociais: a tensão entre as categorias científicas, concepções nativas e classificações mercadológicas. No cada vez mais saturado e competitivo mercado mundializado da pornografia, a difusa fronteira entre a universalidade científica e a regionalidade nativa mostra-se como um vasto território a ser colonizado pela lógica da indústria pornô.

This paper aims to discuss how pornography, especially that which involves people who move between sexes/ genders, deal with one of the most characteristic issues of social science: the tension among scientific categories, native conceptions and marketable classifications. In the (even more) saturated and competitive worldwide pornography market, these diffuse boundaries are presented as a vast territory to be colonized by the porn industry logic.

La teoría feminista ha construido una crítica particular de la pornografía que está lejos de ser uniforme y toma el carácter de un debate. Sus orígenes tienen lugar en Estados Unidos a finales de los setenta, en donde se consolidan dos posiciones: una antipornografía y otra pro-sex. En España, autoras como Raquel Osborne y Dolores Juliano asumen la segunda postura, abonando el terreno para la consolidación del porno-feminismo, que intenta eliminar los sesgos androcéntricos del discurso pornográfico, produciendo pornografía con fines adicionales al masturbatorio.

Feminist theory has constructed a particular criticism of pornography that is far from being uniform and takes the character of a debate. Its origins take place in the U.S. in the late seventies, where two positions consolidate: an anti-pornography and a pro-sex. In Spain authors like Raquel Osborne and Dolores Juliano assume the second posture, creating grounds for the consolidation of porn-feminism, which tries to eliminate andocentric biases of the pornographic speech, producing pornography with additional purposes besides the masturbatory.

Neste estudo, procuro explorar determinada perspectiva crítica relacionada à articulação entre raça, sexualidade e gênero, entendendo que a pornografia gay se prestaria exemplarmente a flagrar a produção de um sistema ordenado de classificações e categorias, estereótipos e representações, instituídos como um discurso capaz de ser lido como o inventário da fetichização socialmente produzida para o desejo sexual racializado. Para desenvolver essa perspectiva apresento uma breve discussão teórica sobre a pornografia, interrogada pela articulação prazer/poder e a leitura de três conjuntos êmicos de representação racial associados ao desejo homossexual: a negritude, a branquidade e a brasilidade.

In this study the author seeks to explore a specific critical perspective related to the race, sexuality and gender articulation, understanding that gay pornography will be exemplary to show the production of a coordinated system of classifications and categories, stereotypes and representations built as a discourse that may be read as a socially produced inventory of fetichization for racialized sexual desire. In order to develop this view the author presents a short theoretical discussion on pornography, interrogated by the power/pleasure articulation and the reading of three hemic corpora of racial representation related to homosexual desire: blackness, whiteness and brazilianness.

Neste artigo discuto o tema dos vídeos pornôs encontrados na internet, para pensar sobre os possíveis impactos e modificações proporcionados por essa tecnologia nos modos de representação pornográfica. A escolha do on-line se deu a partir da constatação do enorme crescimento e segmentação do mercado pornô nesse espaço, bem como das constantes tentativas nacionais e transnacionais de controle do conteúdo veiculado na rede, cujos principais pontos de discussão são a pornografia, a pedofilia e a pirataria. Assim, pretendo neste paper, a partir de uma perspectiva antropológica, abordar as maneiras como o online atua no mercado erótico, especialmente no Brasil, aumentando a segmentação do gênero pornográfico e permitindo o crescimento da chamada pornografia alternativa (altporn). Para tal, tomarei como base dados de minha pesquisa empírica enfocando o site brasileiro pioneiro na produção e comercialização de pornografia alternativa. Meu intento é perceber de que modo se organiza a produção desse ramo da pornografia - com estreita ligação com os avanços tecnológicos - e quais convenções de gênero estão operando nesse segmento a partir da observação dos corpos, desejos e práticas sexuais encontrados nos vídeos e imagens.

This article discusses the topic of porn videos found on the Internet in order to think about the possible impacts and modifications provided by this technology in pornographic representation. The choice for the online was due to the tremendous growth and market segmentation of porn in this space, as well as national and transnational constant attempts to control the content posted on the network, whose main points of discussion are pornography, pedophilia and piracy. So, in this paper, I intend, from an anthropological perspective, to address the ways in which online acts in the porn market, especially in Brazil, increasing segmentation of the genre pornographic and enabling the growth of pornography so called alternative (altporn). To do this, I take examples of my database of empirical research focusing on the pioneer Brazilian website in the production of alternative pornography. My intent is to understand the ways in which this kind of production are organized - with close liaison with technological advances - and what are the genre conventions that operate in this segment from the observation of bodies, desires and sexual practices found in videos and pictures.

Este artigo analisa os enunciados sobre corpos e sexualidade presentes em uma ampla linha de produções pornô com mulheres obesas. Nessa filmografia, o foco não recai em genitais e nádegas (os quais geralmente nem chegam a ser expostos), mas nos estômagos das atrizes. A representação pornográfica consiste no ato de mostrar mulheres gordas comendo alimentos ricos em gordura. A penetração do pênis ou de outro objeto na vagina, típica do pornô mainstream, é substituída pela imagem da penetração de comida na boca dessas mulheres. O autor discute: são essas cenas realmente pornográficas? O que estaria por trás dessas cenas, conclui, seria uma outra forma de representar o prazer feminino para além da submissão a uma potência fálica. O artigo examina também os motivos pelos quais esse tipo de pornografia não inclui mulheres negras, a controvérsia ao redor da relação entre feeder/feedees, assim como os diversos tipos de transgressões levantadas pelo fat porn, uma delas seria uma transgressão que inverte os valores colocados nos corpos magros e seus prazeres.

This paper analyzes statements on bodies and sexuality in a line of porn productions with obese women. In that filmography, the focus is not on genitals and buttocks (generally not exposed), but in the stomachs of the women. The pornographic representation consists in showing fat women eating fat food. Penis or any other object penetration in the vagina, typical in mainstream pornography, is substituted by the penetration of food in these women's mouths. The author asks: are these scenes really pornographic? What lies behind them? And concludes that it would be another form of presenting feminine pleasure besides submission to phallic Power. The paper also examines the reasons why this kind of pornography does not include black women, the controversial relations of feeders to feedees, as well as many kinds of transgressions presented in fat porn: one would be the inversion the values attributed to slim bodies and their pleasures.

Dentro do segmento do mercado pornô conhecido como bizarro, a prática considerada extrema por excelência é alocada ao sexo com animais. O Brasil possui uma indústria de produção desses filmes reconhecida mundialmente. Este artigo discute o estigma dessas produções no interior da indústria pornô, traz dados etnográficos sobre a produção desse mercado, introduz uma discussão sobre legalidade, consentimento e direitos, e finalmente, trata essa temática do ponto de vista do erotismo e dos prazeres pensando o lugar do gênero e da sexualidade nessas práticas. Acredita-se que a temática é um campo vasto para pensarmos as relações humano/animal, normal/anormal, prazer/perigo, natureza/cultura.

Within the bizarre porn market, the extreme practice is that of sex with animals. Brazil has a worldwide known industry producing this kind of porn. This paper discusses the stigma associated to this kind of production within the porn industry, adds ethnographic data on this market's production, introduces a discussion on the legality, consent and rights and treats the theme from the point of view of eroticism and pleasure, thinking about gender and sexuality in these practices. The question is seen as a vast field to think about dyadic relations like human/animal, normal/abnormal, pleasure/danger, nature/culture.

Este artigo trata de narrativas das tradições árabe-islâmica, indiana e persa sobre sagrado e sexualidade, discutindo a pertinência da inserção de tal objeto teórico e empírico em concepções ocidentais de erotismo nos interstícios entre gênero, religião e poder. Apresenta-se também a tese de que a Arábia pré-islâmica era um amálgama de crenças e rituais para além do discurso muçulmano que essencializa tal período histórico como jahiyylia, "época da ignorância".

This paper discusses the relevancy of Western theoretical and empirical concepts such as eroticism, gender, power and religion regarding narratives from Arabic, Persian and Indian traditions dealing with sacred sexuality. Furthermore it argues about the Muslim and historical concept called jahiyylia or "age of ignorance" as an essentialist concept which hides an amalgam of beliefs and ritual practices.

Este artigo examina as configurações discursivas que associam o corpo da top model Gisele Bündchen ao corpo da nação brasileira, e analisa as formas como essas configurações definem o que significa ser brasileira/o de acordo com os discursos presentes nas mídias brasileira e transnacional. Para tanto, utilizo imagens de Gisele a fim de interrogar as formações raciais em um e outro contexto, e de examinar como tais formações têm se reconfigurado a partir das recentes mudanças demográficas e políticas nos contextos brasileiro e estadunidense. Alinho-me, nesse sentido, aos estudos sobre relações raciais, adotando aqui a perspectiva desenvolvida pelos estudos críticos sobre branquidade.

This article examines the discursive configurations that associate the body of top model Gisele Bündchen to the body of the Brazilian nation, and analyses the ways through which these configurations define what means to be Brazilian according to discourses that circulate in Brazilian and transnational media. In order to do that, I use images of Gisele to interrogate the racial formations in the two contexts and to examine how theses formations are being reconfigured due to recent changes in the demographic and political contexts in Brazil and in the United States. Following the studies of racial relations in the two countries, I adopt a framework developed by the studies that focus on the construction of whiteness.

Rodrigues firmó el melodrama autobiográfico Minha Vida con el heterónimo Suzana Flag. La autoría enmascarada y la enunciación travestida de este texto naturalizan los efectos ideológicos de la historia de amor, pero también plantean -tal vez inintencionalmente- una crítica al proceso de subjetivación femenina implícito en ella y una parodia al resultante ideal de Mujer. El análisis de las características contradictorias de este texto ponen en evidencia las limitaciones de la categoría "literatura de mujeres", y señala la pertinencia de remplazarla con la de "escribir como mujer".

Rodrigues signed his heteronym's name - Suzana Flag- on the autobiographical melodrama Minha Vida [My Life]. The masked authorship and the transvestite enunciation of this text naturalize the ideological effects of the love story, but also poses -perhaps unintentionally- a critical view of the related process of producing a feminine subjectivity and a parody of the resulting ideal of Woman. The analysis of the contradictory characteristics of this text reveals the limitations of the category of "women's literature" and suggests the pertinence of replacing it with that of "writing like (or as) a woman".

Esta pesquisa analisa as práticas de leitura e escrita realizadas por mulheres na primeira metade do século XIX. Trata-se de um período em que o domínio das habilidades de leitura e escrita no Brasil era restrito a uma pequena parcela da população, existindo poucos indícios dessas práticas relacionadas ao universo feminino. Foram analisados periódicos em circulação no período, entre eles O Mentor das Brasileiras (São João del-Rei/MG, 1829-1832), em que estão presentes textos de autoria feminina e referências às práticas de leitura de mulheres.

This paper aims to analyze women's reading and writing practices in the first half of the 19th century. In this period writing and reading abilities were restricted to a small part of the population, with few indicators of these practices regarding the feminine universe. We analyzed periodicals in circulation during the period, among them O Mentor das Brasileiras (São João del-Rei/MG, 1829-1832), in which there were texts by female writers and references to women's reading practices.

O texto discute os muitos significados dados à morte de duas mulheres dos grupos menos abastados em Belém do Pará. Tais mulheres foram assassinadas em momentos distintos e tiveram a história de suas vidas e de suas mortes evocada por literatos, estudiosos da região e na imprensa paraense, como um exemplo a ser seguido por outras mulheres, revelando ideais de fidelidade, casamento, de família, entre outros. Se ainda hoje a força dessas histórias vem à tona com significados diversos, no passado não foi diferente sugerindo os muitos sentidos dados a suas vidas e a suas mortes.

This paper discusses the many meanings given to the deaths of two poor women in Belém do Pará (Brazil). These women were killed at different times and had the story of their lives and deaths evoked by writers, scholars and the media, as an example to be followed by other women, revealing ideals of fidelity, marriage, family. If in modern days the strength of these stories still emerges with different meanings, the past was not different, indicating the many meanings given to their lives and deaths.
