CARDIO-RESPIRATORY EFFECTS OF THE EPIDURAL ANESTHESIA IN DOGS WITHOUT PREMEDICATION

The aim of this work was evaluate the effect of the epidural anesthesia in not premedicated dogs. To this was used ten crossbreed adult dogs, males and females, with average weight 7 to 12kg. To each dog was administered 1ml/5kg of lidocaine hidrochloride 2% in the epidural space (L7-S1), The hart rate, respiratory frequency, body temperature and mean blood pressure were observed before and after the aplication of the drug during 60 minutes at 10 minutes intervals. The values were submmitted to statistical analisis by the Kruskall-WaIlis method. The results did not show significant alterations. The anesthetic procedure was considerated safe to use in dogs.
