INFLUENCE OF GENETIC HEMOGLOBINIC PLEOMORPHISM IN THE PRODUCTION AND QUALITY OF THE WOOL SHEEP IN CORRIEDALE BREED: PRELIMINARY DATA

SUMMARY The wool characteristic of twelve sheep of hemoglobin type AA, twelve of type AB, twelve of type BB were primarily analized by technicians of Wool Cooperativo of São Gabriel, Brazil. In this initial study was observed that the wool of both nine animais of hemoglobinic genotype AA and seven animals of genotype AB were classified as the two best type of wool in a rank of six. Only four animais of genotype BB repeated the same finding. The laboratorial studies were accomplished in the Department of Animal Sciences at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil. The perform, type, sweetness, quality, rugosity and color of the wool in the sheep of genotype AA was better when compared to the genotypes AB and BB. All this finding did not show statistical significance allowing to conclude that studies must be done in this sense, opening considerabel space to new research.
