Fifty-nine troughbred mares and their foals were used in this study. Foals serum Ig levels were verified through the zinc sulphate turbidity test (ZST-test), using either spectrophotometer or naked eye, total protein and by electrophoresis. The foals were treated with 2000ml of plasma i.v., but the Ig levels did not rise significantly. Otherwise, Ig levels were compatible with the plasma volume applied.
