Abstract

The paper focus on the specificity of the Social Sciences in the field of Collective Health. It reviews Social Sciences and Health institutionalization, the outlines of the professionals involved in the field, the teaching and the scientific production of these disciplines over the last three decades in Brazil. It discusses in each subject its main characteristics, contents and problems, and the prospects for an enhanced role of Social Science in the field of Collective Health.
