Starch extraction from cassava fibrous residue

Improvement of the extraction process of cassava starch is a problem for researchers and industries in Brazil. In the extraction process of cassava starch for each ton of processed root, 250kg of the starch is produced and about 140kg of the starch is wasted in the cassava fibrous residue. A new extraction and auxiliary solutions were evaluated aiming the improvement of the industrial yield. The use of a second extraction, without auxiliary solutions, was possible to recover 20% of the starch that was not extracted in the traditional process.
