ABSTRACT
This paper is a systematic survey of theories of the state and an actualization to integrate it in the political economy of the New-Developmental Theory. It follows a soft chronological criterion and classifies the theories of the sate according to the organic-republican tradition, the liberal-contractual tradition, the Marxist tradition, the developmental tradition and the theories of the state apparatus. It gives to New Developmental a little more space because this is a theoretical framework that is being developed with the participation of the author. It presents main contributors for each theory, the method adopted, its authoritarian or democratic character, and its main characteristics. Deceased authors appear with their date of birth and death.
