Translation Quality Assessment: results of the first phase of a longitudinal study on the acquisition of translation competence

ABSTRACT

This paper presents partial results of the research project Translation Competence and Translators Training: the development of translator’s specific subcompetencies (CNPq 485158/2013-2). The project’s aim is to investigate translation competence development in a group of translators in training by means of a longitudinal study. The methodology - adapted from Colina (2008), PACTE (2011b) and Braga (2012) - and results of translation quality assessment of the first phase of the project are presented here. Results indicate that the subjects’ translation competence is still underdeveloped and production of suitable translations is related to the level of translation difficulty.
