This paper, based on a text-interative point of view, deals with metadiscursiveness, pointing out its characteristics and functionality in the processing of the spoken text. Different discourse reference modalities are described, featuring focalizations of the code in use, of the management of the communicative event, and of the outline of the text structure. The data used in the analysis are passages from Projeto NURC inqueries, D2 and EF types.
