The idea of nation in the 19th century and Marxism

The article traces the emergence and development of the concept of nation: from its first formulators (as Rousseau, Herder, and Fichte) to its developments in the nineteenth century. It also highlights some concrete processes of formation of nations, particularly the cases of the United States, Italy and Germany. The article also discusses the reception of the national question by Marx and Engels.
