Open-access Exercício físico como intervenção clínica em oncologia: evidências em câncer de mama e câncer colorretal

Cancer has been considered a major public health problem, with breast and colorectal cancer being two of the most common and lethal types of the disease. However, new prevention, screening, and treatment strategies has led to a reduction in their mortality rates. Nevertheless, adverse effects of the disease and its treatment are still observed. In this sense, the practice of physical activity/exercise (PA/E) has been recommended as a safe and effective clinical intervention minimizing adverse effects among other beneficial effects, assisting throughout the cancer continuum. Accordingly, the aim of this literature review is to present the current state of knowledge regarding PA/E across the cancer continuum, with a specific focus on breast and colorectal cancers. It also highlights recent guidelines and describes selected university-based extension programs for this population.
