Perception of first-year nursing undergraduates about research

This paper aimed at knowing the perception of first-year nursing undergraduates about research. It is a qualitative research carried out in a Higher Education Institute in June of 2010. A questionnaire composed of only one and open question has been applied to thirsty first-year undergraduates of a Nursing School. Based on content analysis it was possible to know undergraduate's perception about research; they portrayed the importance of research in professional education, its contribution to practice based on evidence and to permanent education, and the bigger visibility of the profession thought production of knowledge consolidated by research. It is believed that recognition of the importance and necessity of research as a transverse practice in nursing undergraduation courses may contribute for students' professional education.
