Attitudes of health professionals from the Family Health Program face the use and abuse of drugs

This study has the objective of disclosing the attitudes of the professionals of Family Health Program in HPF in Araçatuba, São Paulo, Brazil face the use, abuse and addiction of drugs; and compares the attitudes among the PSF health professionals with and without a university course as to that matter. It was interviewed 286 employees of 35 teams. Concerning to the personal and professional satisfaction for working with addicted patients, there was a higher average for professional with a university course. These professional also presented a higher perception as to the physical problems related to use of drugs and a not very positive prognostic as to the users. The health professionals of PSF without a university course demonstrate attitudes wich can show a better acceptance to the drug use and users. The study showed that exist possibilities and motivations to the development of knowledge and interventions along with the users of drugs, but yet hasn't been significant enough to generate effective changes in the assistance in the PSF.
