Documental Research. Objectives: to identify the frequency of use /abuse of drugs by adolescents in the public school of basic education; and to analyze the consequences of the use/abuse of drugs for the health of these adolescent. Sources: two research reports accomplished with these adolescents, on the second semester of 2006 and first semester of 2007. The study evidenced the consumption of the alcohol with great prominence among the interviewed and showed, yet, that approximately 6% of the population in study already had contact with illicit drugs. Besides that, was evidenced that the nurse presents itself as strategic actor in the actions toward to this subject, in the direction to search approach that extend the view and the possibilities of intervention, over all in the level of prevention and promotion to the health.
