The facsimile entitled "Good Examples", written by Nurse Rosaly Taborda, at the time Head Nurse of Public Health, was published in 1937 in the Annals of Nursing. The present article describes the social issues involved in the population's disease processes. At that time, the access to health conditions that favored a healthier life was not available to most of the population of the country. The author discusses the lack of public health policies for the Brazilian population exposed to different diseases, such as tuberculosis,gastroenteritis, worm infestation and malaria.

If public health policies had been created or implemented, these diseases could have been avoided or prevented. At the same time, these ailments afflicted humankind and curtailed the growth of the population since they primarily affected the children. The article also cites the lack of ethics of some unscrupulous public health officials who sent children to shelters that did not have the minimum conditions necessary to provide proper assistance. The author emphasizes that health policies should focus on human needs and should preserve the specific characteristics of each case. The author repudiates the poor socioeconomic and unsanitary conditions that the population experienced. Because of the negligence of the corrupt health officers, she considers that the population was poorly assisted. The text reveals this nurse's concern with social issues that may lead to illness, which means, she presents factors from the perspective of the health-disease process that transcend the biological aspects.
