The article "National Conference of Protection to Infancy: terms and organization of associations of hygienic protection to infancy ", published in 1933 for the doctor Gastão de Figueiredo, of the Inspectorship of Infantile Hygiene, defended that the protection to the child had for main target to assure its full development and, at the same time, to fight high infantile mortality. For in such a way, this authority considered necessary the permanent contribution of the society, therefore, of the opposite, he would be the responsible doctor for directly transmitting the mothers, of accessible form, the possible advice, in order to daily transform them into one practical incorporated one. The author evaluates the success of these medical interventions through the observance of the increase of the frequency of the illiterate mothers, or with rudimentary instruction, to the doctor's offices of infantile hygiene, amongst which they were also those that they looked to get some resource that assisted them in the sustenance of the children. Although the author at great length evokes the paper of the doctor and the society in the combat to the raised index of infantile mortality, he seems that the same he disrespects the basic contribution of the nurse for this function, therefore discrete mentions "the happiness to make use of the efficient competition of the service of nurses of Public Health", in the Federal District (Rio de Janeiro). However, he is known that the School of Nurses of the National Department of Public Health (DNSP) formed nurses with proficiency in the promotion of the health and the prevention of illnesses, of which was part the training of abilities come back toward the care of the child. The creation of an Association of Lactary with scientific bases contributed to reduce the impact of the damages observed to infancy, as it designates the author. In this movement of incentive to the lactaries, we also detach the enterprise of then the managing of the School of Nurses of the DNSP, Rachel Haddock Lobo that created a lactary in the San Francisco de Assis Hospital. Therefore, the nurse also contributed, together with the doctor, educative measures and other interventions, in the direction to fight the high incidence of infantile mortality in Rio de Janeiro. The recognition of the participation of the nurse in this mission would have to extend the joust visibility to the Nursing while basic profession also in the politics of protection to the infantile health.
