The objective of the present study was to develop a historical analysis about the practice and known of the Brazilian Psychiatric Nursing in the first half of the 20th Century. Practices and knows of the internment paradigm ruled in the guardian, segregation and social exclusion; based in the belief that the knowledge of the history of the Nursing and of the Psychiatry is basic for the construction of a new professional practice.
