This study aims to know the repercussions of perforating-cutting accidents for the nursing worker, and to discuss such repercussions. Methods: descriptive and qualitative study, developed in a federal public large hospital in Rio de Janeiro, whose subjects were the nursing staff. The focal group was the technique used for data collection and theme analysis. Results: the repercussions of the accidents comprise two aspects: unfavorable repercussions on the worker's health, involving feelings of fear, despair, preoccupation, shame, anxiety and insecurity; and favorable repercussions on the worker's professional performance, involving the need for more care and attention while handling perforating-cutting instruments. Conclusions: this type of accident impacts on the worker's subjectivity, and requires the adoption of safety practices in hadling perforating-cutting instruments, considering their high potential for health injuries, both physically and emotionally, for the nursing worker.
