Capitalist alliance and the rooting of the technological dependence in the Brazilian economy: an institutionalist-evolutionary point of view

Abstract

From the institutionalist-evolutionary point of view, this article analyzes two attempts of technological pairing adopted in the Brazilian economy in the second half of the twentieth century. Both attempts are characterized according to the concept of “capitalists alliances” by Peter Evans, between National State, foreign companies and National industrial capital in the 1950s, 1960s and the 1970s, and between National State and foreign companies in the 1990s. We concluded that the first alliance conditioned the second, reinforcing the dependence of the National economy on the foreign productive capital, which ultimately led to the rooting of the technological dependence in the Brazilian economy.
