Effect of adequate qualification on job satisfaction of young Brazilians

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of professional satisfaction of youths and educational adequacy, measured from the compatibilization of the ISCO and ISCED scale. Data from the School to Work Transition Survey (SWTS) of the International Labor Organization (ILO), a specific database for young people aged 15 to 29 years, in Brazil, were used. An ordered probit model was used, and the dependent variable was the degree of professional satisfaction of young people. There was a negative and significant relationship between excessive qualification and job satisfaction. In addition, having a formal job, and higher salary/hour, are positively related to job satisfaction.
