ABSTRACT
In this paper, we approach the matter of the phenomenon of the Shadow of the Human Self, as a means to self-awareness and anthropological understanding of the being. In order to do so, we make use of the philosophy of gnosis, an ancient method of self-awareness used by the Greek philosophers of the fourth century, the true Gnostics, which had as an anthropological basis the way of living of the desert therapists of the beginning of the Christian era. We believe it is necessary to name the Shadows, and to assume a conscious behavior facing them, so as to make them a way towards human growth, overcoming the dualist notion of being and answering to the profound human wishes for completeness and communion with the totality.
