Teaching Biological Evolution and its Approach in Textbooks

ABSTRACT

Even though it is considered as a regulating idea for the whole of biology, evolution is generally treated as a content in Brazilian biology textbooks; thus, in those textbooks evolution is usually considered the same way as any other content. Besides, other contents that should be considered based on a previous understanding of the concept of evolution are approached by means of only an implicit reference to evolution. The goal of the present article, through an analysis of some biology textbooks used in high school, is to describe and discuss the form of presentation of competition and virus contents, and to verify how such presentation is being made.
