MAPPING THE MANAGEMENT AND PEDAGOGICAL SUPPORT COMPETENCES OF PROFESSIONALS WORKING WITH DISTANCE LEARNING

ABSTRACT:

The aim of the present study was to empirically diagnose the professional competencies (technical and behavioral) concerning the management, pedagogical and secretarial support in distance learning courses provided by Brazil Open University. A sequential mixed model design was applied through two empirical stages, which encompassed one qualitative stage composed of documental analysis and of the conduction of nine semi-structured interviews; and the was based on the application of a totally structured questionnaire. Data treatment was conducted through content and statistical analysis. Results showed low competence gaps, fact that suggests that activities focused on recruitment, training and on competence development have been possibly performed in compliance with the attributes needed by the secretarial and support teams. It is recommended to apply data evaluations based on multiple sources and on the psychometric validation of the competence instrument in further studies in order to identify its internal and external validity evidences.
