Open-access Sustainability management from the perspective of librarians at the Federal Regional Courts

Abstract:

The Brazilian Judiciary, in its strategic planning, stands out as a pioneer in incorporating the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. The aim of this study was to analyze sustainability management from the perspective of librarians working in the Federal Regional Courts. As for the methodological procedures employed, the technical procedures are bibliographical and documental, and the objectives of the study are exploratory and descriptive. A qualitative approach was adopted to process the data, using the content analysis technique, based on the results from the semi-structured questionnaire. It was found that of the 27 Federal Regional Courts analyzed, they follow the methodological standard of the National Council of Justice, prioritizing the environmental and economic dimensions of Sustainable Development. It can be inferred that, although the sustainability management of the respective courts is not properly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, they show an interest in developing responsible governance by putting the issue on the agenda. It was also found that the participation of librarians in sustainability actions is limited, even though they recognize the importance of alignment with the 2030 Agenda. In this context, it is important for the courts to expand their sustainability actions, including librarians in the planning and execution. Finally, it should be pointed out that the skills held by librarians should effectively raise awareness and mobilize and promote Informational Sustainability in the Judiciary. It should also be noted that librarians play an important role in the sustainability management initiatives of the Federal Regional Courts, with a view to inclusive, equitable, sustainable and informational management.
