Abstract:

This study investigates how experiences with Augmented Intelligence in other fields of knowledge may contribute to professional practice in Librarianship and Information Science. Objective: This study aims to understand the context, motivation, and implications of Augmented Intelligence across various disciplines in order to evaluate reported experiences, and how such experiences may enrich professional practice in Librarianship and Information Science with actionable knowledge. Method: A qualitative approach was employed through exploratory research and a narrative literature review, utilizing systematic searches in scientific databases. The corpus consisted of scientific articles that addressed Augmented Intelligence as an object of study. Results: Augmented Intelligence is recognized as a human-centered approach capable of expanding user cognition, optimizing decisions, and preserving ethical values essential to Librarianship and Information Science, such as privacy, diversity, and impartiality. Experiences across various knowledge domains demonstrated positive impacts, including error prevention and increased productivity. Conclusions: Augmented Intelligence represents a promising and necessary pathway to integrate Artificial Intelligence into technical processes within Librarianship and Information Science, while maintaining the information professional’s central role in the ethical mediation of access to information. It offers a safe and humanized alternative to address the challenges of the Digital Revolution, ensuring the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence in the information field.
