Open-access School performance: a comparative study between rural and urban students in a public school of Piauí

Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the school performance between rural and urban students of 6th-grade in a public school of Piauí. Furthermore, the socioeconomic and school factors that influence performance were investigated, according to teachers and students. Performance data were obtained from school records, and the performance-influencing factors were investigated through questionnaires and interviews. School records showed that students living in the rural area had lower performance compared to those living in the urban area. This variation would be related to social and school aspects in different levels: student, class and school.
