Considerations on performance evaluation

The purpose of this article is to offer a comprehensive view of the performance evaluation process: meaning, barriers to implementation and effectiveness, benefits, problems, approaches, practices, and essential components, focusing on teachers' evaluation. Emphasis is given to the development of performance indicators. Finally, an evaluation proposal which takes into consideration the topics discussed is presented, delineating the main phases and participants of the process. We expect this article shows that this process, which is essential to the institutional health and to the quality of its services and products, should be participative, dynamic, and open to constant revisions (reviews).
