BETWEEN REPRESENTATIONS AND DISCOURSES: THE MEANINGS OF SCHOOL MATHEMATICS IN THE FORMULATION OF TEACHERS

Through the theoretical-methodological construct, with the Theory of Social Representations and the materialistic Discourse Analysis in between, we took as a starting point the nuisance of how and what social representations are sustained, producing meaning effects on school mathematics, in the discourse of teachers who teach it. The goal is to analyze the meanings effects about the discipline. The theoretical and analytical framework allows understanding how the discourse structures and processes these representations. As a result three thematic regularities were identified about school mathematics: 1) it is present in everyday life, 2) it leads to logical reasoning, 3) it is essential for being a citizen. Anchored in the organization of the contemporary world, by laws and rules, the meanings expressed by the teachers reiterate the transparency effect of the discipline as an indispensable knowledge for all.

Discourse; Social representations; School mathematics.
