The new forms of expression of prejudice and racism

Nowadays the democratic societies condemn the open and traditional forms of prejudice and racism. Consequently, some studies, using traditional data collection methodologies, have demonstrated that the negative stereotypes associated to the blacks are decreasing. However, new and more sophisticated forms of racism have emerged and produced many everyday discriminatory actions, at an institutional and interpersonal level. To analyze these new forms of expression of prejudice and racism several theories have emerged in social psychology. In this sense, we have the modern racism, symbolic racism, aversive racism, ambivalent racism, cordial racism and subtle prejudice theories. This work analyzes these new theories of racism and prejudice and describes some of their empirical support.
