The matter of this article is a diversity of problems, impasses, dilemmas, and tension points present at teachers training for basic education in Brazilian public high education institutions. Data for the exploratory documental investigation comes from the registered theses at the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (Capes) Theses Bank and articles published on the Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SciELO)/Brazil website. The investigation period ranges from 2006 to 2013. We found problems, impasses, dilemmas, and tension points related to the teaching profession, teachers education courses, and career attraction.
